NCS Trust
NCS Trust was one of the most impactful youth organisations in England from 2009 to 2025. It gave young people aged 16-17 the space to find themselves, grow new strengths, learn life skills, and make a positive impact in their communities.
As sole copywriter for the organisation from 2020 to 2025, I spearheaded a brand refresh and had complete ownership of our TOV.
Hey grey, what it was like joining the company on the first day of the first national COVID-19 lockdown?👀
Getting thrown in the deep end meant turning an established offer of a four week residential experience into a completely new, completely online experience, without losing any impact. This meant content content content.
From 12 pieces of content a month to over 80, my fingers were busy! I worked on almost 400 briefs over the first year, to keep a country of young people connected through one of the most disconnected times of their lives.
The result? Our brand loyalty grew by 82%!
Blogs were a massive part of the writing, and our audience bloody loved them. passionate, empowered teens care about so much, and they wanted to read things that reflected theIr vibes AND VISIONS.
Topics range from political and cultural topics to social action and making a positive impact. friendships, relationships, and sex, to advice and debates. interviews and deep dives to fun quizzes TO LIGHTEN THE LOAD.
It was integral to stay on the pulse of what young people feel and think and create relevant think pieces. I also kept account of what our target audience would be going through on a yearly basis - school exams, finding new or first jobs, applying for college etc - and general things like elections and national holidays, and created blogs for those moments.
MyNCS was AN ONLINE PRODUCT WE CREATED TO GIVE young people AND their parents A SPACE TO explore and sign up for our NEW RESIDENTIAL experiences.
IT was a mammoth project that ran over a number of years, finally launching in 2023.
Approximately 50+ CONTENT pages included: landing pages, account creation, experience information and descriptions, product pages, partner page descriptions, payment journeys and communications, FAQs and more.
co-founding and Leading writers’ club was one of greatest achievements at ncs.
I mentored ten young writers every year, led workshops and gave group, and one on one writing sessions. The idea was to help the young writers flourish, learn how to voice their thoughts, opinions and passions, and become confident in their writing skills.
I pitched different themes for the Club to write blogs on, gave constructive feedback and then their finished blogs were published on our website.
Blogs ranged from views on identity to hobbies. movie reviews and poetry to cultural connections. hot topic debates to handling prejudices. and so, so much more.
teaching these young writers and giving them a space to be their authentic selves was a great honour. At the end of each year the writers got a portfolio of all of their published pieces.
The Club led to me providing work experience for one promising writer, where she worked within our creative and social team and I acted as her line manager.
““Grey has a real gift for speaking to our teen audience, feeling authentic and empowering but never patronising. It’s a balance that had been difficult to achieve prior to her arrival. She doesn’t just write great copy, she really thinks about how all the pieces interact to attract and ultimately convert customers.””
